Last week, Matt and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary. We decided to take a big trip to celebrate. We arranged babysitting for the kids with both sets of grandparents and spent almost a week away from our kids. Matt and I headed to the San Francisco area and we also visited Sonoma Valley just north of there. We had been to San Francisco several years ago but we decided to head back and visit some different things as well. Matt's parents, Mimi and Paw-paw Tom stayed with the girls for the first 3 1 /2 days and Paula's parents, Nana and Paw-paw, kept the girls for the last 2 1/2 days. I will say that after about 4 days I really missed the girls and was ready to come home but we had fun.
Matt and I arrived in San Francisco on a Wednesday afternoon, rented a car and saw a couple of sights around San Francisco before heading about an hour north to Sonoma (in the wine country). We were a little disoriented by the time change but we got used to it (they are 2 hours behind us). On Thursday and Friday, we toured the Benziger winery which was very interesting and took some beautiful drives all along the coast including a visit to Point Reyes one day and some sights around there (the lighthouse pictures you see above). It was somewhat cool in San Francisco but in the outskirts of San Francisco, it was a little bit warmer. We toured the area where Jack London lived (author of Call of the Wild) and saw the little town where Charles Schulz was from (Santa Rosa). They have several statues of the Charlie Brown cartoon characters around their town so we enjoyed finding them. =) We had a somewhat relaxing vacation but we also did a good bit of walking some days. On Friday night, we went back to San Francisco and stayed there for a few nights. It was very foggy each day in San Francisco and they had really cool temperatures! We stayed in the Fisherman's Wharf area. We had fun riding the cable cars and streetcars around the town (we returned our car Saturday so that we didn't have to pay their astronomical prices to park in SF). We were able to go back and do some of our favorite things including the Golden Gate Bridge, Muir Woods, Lombard Street, Alamo Square and the Japanese tea garden. However, we did not visit Alcatraz this time (we had taken the tour last time and they were all booked up). I enjoyed seeing more of Chinatown this time too.
