After a busy day on Sunday going to church, having lunch, letting the kids play with the Davies children, checking into a hotel and going to Caleb's birthday party at the Kiddie Park, we had other plans. We went over to the Brockman's home for dinner. Matt and Buck Brockman were good friends at Harding and he was in our wedding. It had been 9 years since they had seen each other. During that time, Buck had gotten married and had 2 girls with his wife, Katy, and we had moved a few times and had our two girls. We enjoyed having a nice Mexican dinner with the Brockman's and all of the girls had fun playing together. We were really worn out at the end of the day though!
My brother, Phil, was able to stay with us in our hotel and on Monday, we headed about an hour south to Jourdanton where our great Aunt Maureen lives in an assisted living facility. We also met Aunt Dot and her daughter, Harriet, who came up from George West, TX (the little town that my grandmother grew up in). My grandmother was one of 5 children. She passed away about 5 years ago when she was 91 years old. Only one of her siblings is still living and that's my Aunt Maureen. I love my Aunt Maureen. She has always been just so special! She's 94 years old but she walks unassisted, quilts and is the activity coordinator at the assisted living facility where she lives. She is an amazing woman and I was so excited that my girls were able to go and meet her. We were able to visit with Aunt Dot and Harriet for a little bit and then we stayed and had lunch with Aunt Maureen. Aunt Dot was married to my great-uncle Jimmy, who was the youngest sibling of my grandmother. I was so glad that the girls were able to meet some of their relatives in Texas. That night, we headed down to the Alamo. We walked along the Riverwalk and ate at the Rainforest Cafe (it was the first time that we had ever taken the girls there). Then, we took a narrated boat tour.
The next day, we had thought that the girls could go swimming but it turned out to be the coldest day since we had been in Texas. Instead, we decided to go to the Tower of the Americas where you can ride up to the top and have a wonderful view! There were some beautiful fountains right next to the tower so we enjoyed walking around those. For lunch, we were able to go to Pappasito's for some more delicious Mexican food. We had some awesome Mexican food on our trip! Then, we visited with my mom's first cousin, Robert, and his wife, Inga, before heading to the airport. All in all, we had a wonderful trip and we were able to squeeze in a lot of things. Just after we got back from our trip (the next day), Abbie asked when we were going on another trip because she said she wanted to go on another one! I'm glad that she enjoys travelling because Matt and I both do but I need a little recovery time first.
